So many businesses are looking for designers with specific skills and knowledge to help them out, but google searches and algorithms are too broad and it’s hard to go deep enough. Other freelance websites are gatekeep-y and have thousands of profiles offering cheap labour you don’t want to compete with.

We’ve made something different. We focus only on local Toronto talent so you’re not lost in a sea of options, anybody can browse profiles (or scope out the competition!) without having to create an account, and listings focus on your design work, not your headshot, so clients can find the right designer for their project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for getting listed?

To have your listing included in the Freelance Directory, each person must:

▻ Be a current freelancer actively taking on clients and jobs (not just preparing to, but ready to book right now).
‍
▻ Have an updated and ready to go portfolio website and completed LinkedIn profile.
‍
▻ Be based either in the City of Toronto or the surrounding GTA or Hamilton.

Can anybody join the freelancer directory?

This directory is intended to advertise graphic designers and similar creatives. That can include but isn't limited to: advertising art directors, motion designers and animators, product and UX designers, letterers and typographers, visual designers, and others. The best way to tell if you're a fit for this directory is to see if your primary services are listed in the "areas of expertise" as those are the skills and jobs we're focused on. This directory doesn't list interior designers since that's a different skill set.

Do I have to be in Toronto to join?

You have to be in Toronto or the GTHA to join. We recognize the realities of remote work and want to facilitate the jobs and relationships Toronto designers and Toronto clients realistically have. You must be an Ontario resident to be listed.

Where do I fill out my profile?

When you click "register now" you'll be directed to a form to complete your profile. Once you submit that form, you'll be directed to a payment form to purchase your membership.

Can I update my profile after I join?

Yes! When you have a change you want to make, fill out the update form with your new information. You can update as frequently as you want. Once we cross-check the update with your membership, we'll complete the change within 3 - 5 business days if not sooner.

Why is this limited to the GTHA?

The Toronto Design Directory (this website) is focused on the graphic design community in Toronto. However, we recognize the fact that many people work remotely and many people commute to and from the city, and those in different parts of the greater Toronto area still work together and seek each other out. Facilitating these connections and jobs just made sense.

Will I get a receipt for my taxes?

Yes, once your purchase of the annual membership has been processed you'll automatically receive an email receipt for your records.

My skills aren't listed, what can I do?

If you have a skill or area of expertise that isn't listed, you can request a new addition by contacting us. We want to include all the kinds of work visual designers are capable of (there's a lot!) so we seriously consider all feedback.
